In November, Alfalit Chair, Joseph Milton visited our literacy and basic education programs in Angola. Mr. Milton was joined by Executive Director, Catherine Penrod and Program Director, Teresa DeAlmeida. The team visited Alfalit offices and classes located in the Lunda Sul province in the eastern region of the country.

Periodic visits to Alfalit’s international programs allow us to observe and address the needs of each location.

In Luanda, the students are enthusiastic to continue their studies and have asked to extend the programs up to 6th grade level.

Many of the students aspire to pursue professional careers as doctors, lawyers or teachers.

The team also met with Alfalit Angola partner ExxonMobil. ExxonMobil representatives expressed their satisfaction with Alfalit Angola programs in Lunda Sul. The support received from ExxonMobil is through its affiliate Esso Exploration Angola (Block 15) as part of a commitment to improve the lives of people in the communities where they operate.

The trip concluded with a graduation ceremony in which Mr. Milton and the Alfalit team were able to present students with their certificates.
