Unforgettable Today

Bible Reading:1 Samuel 2: 3-9 He will guard the feet of his faithful ones; but the wicked shall be cut off in darkness; for not by might does one prevail. —1 Samuel 2: 9
Today and now are words that belong to the present and, therefore, are the most significant of those that relate to time. As much as yesterday means to me, I no longer have influence over it; it has already passed. As many memories as it may have left, as many obligations fulfilled, yesterday has already lost its present reality.
And tomorrow, as many hopes or fears as it may awaken, as many ambitions or illusions as it may suggest, as many expectations as it may hint, all must yet be seen and proven.
But today , with its here and now, is the embodiment of reality.
What a moment it was for Zacchaeus when the Lord Jesus, who had the power to say it, told him, “Today salvation has come to this house. . .” (Luke 19:9).
How I remember the day that SALVATION came to my house! There, at that moment, although I remained in time and space, eternity began for me.
Prayer
O Eternal Father, Father of the Lord Jesus. . my Father, thank you for the life that you give me. Thank you for this today of true life that, although tied to time and space, allows me to participate in eternity. Give me now, Lord, the virtue, the grace and the power I need to take the secret of your total liberation to those still “imprisoned” (1 Peter 3:10). And in this today, full of opportunities and risks, take me by the hand, O my Christ. Keep me from falling and show me the blessed path of testimony, of service and of love. Amen.
