Website Visitors Like most websites, Alfalit collects non-personally-identifying information that web browsers and servers typically make available, such as the browser type, language preference, referring site and the date and time of each visitor’s request. Alfalit’s purpose in collecting non-personally identifying information is to understand better how our visitors use its website. Alfalit may release non-personally-identifying information in the aggregate. One example of this is a report we might publish on trends in the usage of our website.
Alfalit also collects potentially personally-identifying information like Internet Protocol (IP) addresses of logged-in visitors and visitors who leave comments. Alfalit only discloses IP addresses under the same circumstances as we disclose any personally-identifying information described in the Disclosure Notice below, except that blog commenter IP addresses are visible and disclosed to the administrators of the blog where the comment was left.
Gathering of Personally-Identifying Information Alfalit’s website visitors may interact with Alfalit in ways that require us to gather personally-identifying information. The amount and type of information gathered depends on the nature of the interaction. Those who engage in transactions such as donations, honorariums/memorials, event tickets, etc. are asked to provide additional information that is necessary to process the transaction. Generally, this includes personal and financial information. However, the only information gathered is what is needed and appropriate to finalize the transaction and fulfill the purpose of the website visitor. Alfalit does not disclose personally-identifying information other than as described in the Disclosure Notice below. Website visitors may refuse to provide such information, although this may affect the transaction attempt. If preferred, website visitors are always welcome to call Alfalit during regular business hours to provide such information to finalize transactions verbally.
Alfalit may use personally-identifying information to inform website visitors about new or additional information regarding Alfalit. We may personalize communications based on interests and past interactions of website visitors. Personally-identifying information is used, of course, to respond to inquiries and fulfill requests, such as to process donations or to share news about Alfalit’s programs, volunteers, students, staff, etc.
Disclosure Notice Alfalit protects the identity of all who contact us through our website. Alfalit does not rent, sell, or exchange our mailing lists, or otherwise disclose such information to third parties, with some exceptions. These include disclosures required by law, such as a subpoena, court order, etc. or in voluntary cooperation with law enforcement authorities if, in good faith, we believe such cooperation is necessary to avoid potential serious harm.
Only with your permission, we may provide your contact information to our affiliated organizations in other countries. These organizations will handle the information per their privacy policies as well as the privacy and data protection laws applicable to them, and they determine how they will use personal information. Alfalit is not responsible for how the affiliates handle personally-identifying information.
Aggregated Statistics As noted above, Alfalit may collect statistics about the behavior of visitors to its website. For instance, we may monitor the most popular posts or most visited pages. While we may display the aggregate result or provide to others, Alfalit will not disclose personally-identifying information other than as noted in the Disclosure Notice above.
Alfalit’s website may contain links to other sites. Alfalit is not responsible for the privacy practices or the content of such other Web sites, even if our name and logo still appear on the top of the screen.
Cookies – What Are They and How Does Alfalit Use Them? Kaspersky, a well-respected and nationally known security firm, defines cookies as “files that contain small pieces of data — like a username and password — that are exchanged between a user’s computer and a web server to identify specific users and improve their browsing experience.”
Change of Organization Structure In the unlikely event that Alfalit ceases to exist, user information will be deleted, and servers deactivated. In the instance of a merger, also a questionable likelihood, user information could be considered an asset and may be transferred to the surviving organization.
Security Policy We use industry-standard safeguards to protect personally-identifying and credit card related information.
Because Alfalit is environmentally conscious, it is very seldom that hard copies of any documents are used. When personally-identifying and other confidential information is printed, a layered system ensures only designated employees and officer-level Board members may have access, all of whom sign confidentiality agreements on an annual basis. In these uncommon instances, hard copies are destroyed in paper shredders.
All online transactions are completed on a secure server. Information entered on the transaction page is encrypted using SSL (Secure Socket Layer) before transmission. On secure pages, a “closed” lock symbol displays in the bottom part of the browser screen and the website address in the address bar at the top of the browser screen starts with an “https” instead of an “http.”
All computers that receive or store personally-identifying, credit card and related information are secured by firewalls and other security measures, including: Internet security protocols, encryption, access controls, and physical security. These measures make it extremely difficult for anyone to intercept any information provided to Alfalit. Alfalit works with other companies to process credit cards and other transactions. The companies selected also use encryption and other appropriate security protocol measures. Our vendors are bound by strict confidentiality rules and are permitted to use data about donors, event attendee, etc. only to support our operations. Anyone providing any personally-identifying and credit card related information to Alfalit is always welcome to call us during regular business hours to provide such information to finalize transactions verbally.
Privacy & Security Policy Changes Although most changes are likely to be minor, Alfalit may change its Privacy & Security Policies at any time. For this reason, we encourage our website visitors to review this page for any changes that occur as related to the gathering, use, and protection of personally-identifying information.
Change log: Updated as of June 2020.
