Who Will Uphold Me?

Bible Reading:1 Samuel 2: 3-9 He will guard the feet of his faithful ones; but the wicked shall be cut off in darkness; for not by might does one prevail. —1 Samuel 2: 9
“The fight is on, the trumpet sounds!” says the old hymn. And it tells the truth. The battle continues. . . . And it will continue until we cross the borders of infinite peace, the borders of time and eternity.
It is a struggle without respite–a decisive battle against sin, against Satan, against death itself.
But I am not alone. Woe to me if I were! At my side are all the Christians who without a moment of rest fight the good fight, the battle for truth, for faith, for love–God’s battle.
And on our front, my own front, is he who tells me: “.. do not fear, for I am with you, do not be afraid, for I am your God. . .” (Isaiah 41:10).
Sometimes I get distracted and lose sight of my own situation.
Sometimes I lose sight of my God, and I attempt to fight alone, to decide alone, to take my own paths and abandon those of the Lord.
Sometimes a hard knock makes me come to my senses. As I begin to awaken to reality, I feel overwhelmed by the weight of my weaknesses. But just then I hear the Lord saying to me, “I will [always] uphold you” (Isaiah 41:10).
And how sweet it is to feel his hand holding me, lifting me up and directing me anew.
Prayer
Thank you, Lord, for your constant presence. Thank you for being here, now, with me. Thank you for loving me, for loving me as much as you loved your Son whom you gave for me. Thank you for reprimanding me. Thank you for everything. And, above all, thank you for your infinite love. Listen now to my prayer and give me your blessing. For Christ’s sake, I ask it. Amen.
